There are deep– and I mean deep– theological issues that the average Christian seems not to care about at all. One such issue is the implicit teaching throughout the Scriptures that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit had a plan from before the foundation of the world to redeem one elect people for Himself from all tribes, tongues and nations. Many theologians refer to this as the covenant of redemption.
You really do not come to see that teaching by reading the Bible from a man-centered perspective; you don’t come to that conclusion by looking to apply the Bible before being sure you even understand the texts to begin with; you don’t come to that conclusion by being lazy when you study the Scriptures; you don’t come to that conclusion by ever thinking that theology is impractical– or simply giving “lip service” to theology.
But if you come to that conclusion– that God has a plan to save that WILL NOT BE THWARTED– you will be comforted NO MATTER WHAT happens to you. The unhappiest people I know are the ones with the shallowest theology.
